Zutara Kiss On The Neck

Description

Not much to say about this one. I had a little scenario in my mind and I might as well attempt to write it out --

Katara hated him.

Despised the very essence of his entire loathsome being.

So, when Azula attacked the Western Air Temple and Zuko, trying to play the idiotic hero, yelled at them to escape while he faced Azula. Katara was all for it. Aang rejected it but trusted Zuko which bothered her greatly. She stayed on the back of Appa after having to say goodbye to her father and a few of their newer recruits. Sokka, Suki, and Toph, as well as Aang watched the fight with anticipation. Sokka was screaming, wanting so badly to help the man he now considered a good friend (which also made Katara feel slightly nauseous...), Suki held him down to Appa, Toph just listened intently. The young earthbender was trembling as her grip on Appa increased until her knuckles were white. While Aang furiously steered Appa from fiery blasts, Katara was occupied with trying her damnedest to ignore the fact Zuko was so precariously perched atop the massive war balloons but she adamantly denied she was worried for the Prince. And if she was -- which she was NOT -- it was only because he needed to survive long enough to teach Aang firebending because she was DAMN tired and didn't want to find him another Firebending teacher if this one stupidly got burnt to a crisp by his psycho sister...

Aang guided Appa away from the fight and she vehemently supported that they should just leave Zuko to fend for himself until he caught up. Sounded fair. Aang didn't agree and instead kept circling and dodging much to her dismay. Katara 'hmphed' and turned her eyed back to the fight seemingly disinterested and more angry with the fact Aang didn't do what Zuko said and just leave him to his sister. Finding a new firebending teacher sounded easier than having to dodge all these flying projectiles and deal with Zuko's insane family. Getting him out of their gaang was just a bonus...

That was the last thought that crossed her mind when she saw him dodge his sister and made a jump toward a different balloon -- her eyes widened.

He missed.

He was falling.

Katara felt her heart pounding against her ribcage for a reason beyond her as she watched Zuko falling to his imminent death. They were too far away for her to see his face as he fell but she could only imagine the look in his gold eyes. Flashes of memories flew through her mind.

'I'll save you from the pirates.'

'You rise with the moon -- I rise with the sun.'

'That's something we have in common...'

"ZUKO!" Katara heard a frantic scream and to her horror -- she realized it was her own.

Aang must have noticed as well because Appa was steered and nose diving. Time seemed to slow as Katara watched him continue to fall. The panic and terror rose in her throat as she watched the seemingly bottomless pit lift and the jagged rocks that would end his life come closer.

Appa finally swooped right under the Prince and riding totally on her instincts, reached up and grabbed his wrists before pulling him against her. She felt the weight of him on top of her. She looked up at him. His gold eyes wide and scared. Everything around her disappeared as he backed up and pulled her to sit up. Zuko remained silent. Their eyes never breaking contact.

He was here -- alive.

That was all that mattered. Before she realized what she was doing, her arms wrapped tightly around his neck and her face buried against his throat. Zuko gasped but his arms immediately circled around her. Feeling his pulse beneath her cheek, she lifted her face slightly and kissed that beautiful strong pulse point on his neck. Relishing in his warmth, his frantically beating heart and even slight musk from the sweat on his neck. Katara felt the prickle of tears in the back of her eyes before reality of her brother clearing his throat brought her back to reality.

Katara flew back furiously, her eyes wide, and her cheeks stained red. She looked at Zuko's face. The soft pink tinting his cheeks and his mouth in a soft 'o' of surprise and widened eyes were enough to know the reality of what she just did -- with everyone looking.

Putting back her mask of cool indifference, she muttered 'glad you're okay' before yelling at Aang to get everyone the hell out of there.

They were off again.

Katara sat farthest away from Zuko on the sattle and refused to meet anyone's eyes. After a long relative silence, she felt more than heard Toph snickering before the earthbender muttered "I knew you liked him..."

Katara didn't want to glory that with a response so she just growled back.
